Chemical peels are a great way to improve the skin’s texture, color and overall appearance. Most common skin concerns treated by a chemical peel are: fine lines, wrinkles, acne, dark spots and discoloration, improving the total look and feel of skin, this is a procedure that we offer in our dermatology stream of our clinic.

How chemical peels are done?

The procedure consists of an application of a chemical solution directly to cleansed skin, under the supervision of a specialist. The type of chemical solution and duration of application depends on the condition and sensitivity of the skin, and the severity of the concern to be treated. There may or may not be shedding of the skin 2-3 days after the procedure for a duration of another 2-3 days. In all cases, regardless of skin type, chemical peels performed for acne treatment, darkspot treatment, discolouration and wrinkle treatment, must be performed in a series of at least 6-8 sessions with a frequency of 1-3 weeks.

Why are chemical peels done?

The purpose of a chemical peel is to induce tissue regeneration by initially causing controlled tissue death followed by activation of the skin’s natural healing process. As such, several outcomes can be accomplished:

Chemical Peels

Acne Treatment, Darkspot Treatment, Discolouration and Wrinkle Treatment

  1. Breakdown of surface clusters of melanin, which causes dark spots and melasma caused by genetics, over exposure to sun, and hormone therapy

  2. Breakdown of fibrosis, an improperly formed collagen fiber, responsible for unevenness in scar tissue seen in acne scars

  3. Reduction of inflammation associated with uncontrolled bacterial growth with deep pores and oily skin conditions causing cystic and surface acne

  4. Activation of inflammatory mediators, which induce the production of new collagen and fundamental dermal substances

  5. The production of new surface skin cells that are brighter, smoother, healthier, and more even toned

These are the chemical peels currently offered at our dermatology Kanata clinic, each specific for a skin related concern. It is strongly advised to see one of our specialists for a free consultation to receive an individualized chemical treatment plan.
